‘Last place’ Samsung’s chili peppers? Grabbing first and second place back-to-back and on the verge of breaking free

The Samsung Lions are shaking up the standings by taking a dominant series (winning at least two out of three) from the second-place SSG Landers and the first-place LG Twins.

Samsung extended its winning streak to two games with a 6-3 victory over the LG Twins in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu on April 5.

With the win, Samsung improved to 39 wins (54 L, 1 D) on the season, reducing the gap between them and the ninth-place Kiwoom Heroes to zero games and moving them closer to escaping the bottom of the standings.

LG, who were riding a seven-game winning streak, were peppered with chili peppers. LG, which held a 5.5-game lead over second-place SSG Landers before meeting Samsung, lost its second straight game to cut the deficit to 3.5 games.

But Samsung’s chili wasn’t just for LG. Samsung had already sprinkled its chili on the SSG as well. Samsung swept the three-game series in Daegu last month from May 25-28.

SSG, which was trailing first-place LG by 1.5 games at the time, closed the gap to 0.5 games with a win in Game 2, but two losses to Samsung pushed it back out of the lead. Against the No. 1 and No. 2 teams, Samsung put the chili powder on the table.

After finishing the first half of the season with a winning percentage of 0.388 (31-49), Samsung has improved to a winning percentage of 0.615 (8-5-1) in the second half of the season and is climbing up the standings. Their team batting average in the second half has jumped to 0.336. The team ERA in the second half is still a dismal 5.02, but the starting rotation has stabilized and the struggling bullpen has rebounded with five games, five holds, and four saves against the first and second-place teams. That’s an encouraging record.메이저놀이터

Samsung is likely to continue to shake up the top tier in a big way. Just look at the schedule. After the final game of the three-game series against LG on the 6th, Samsung will play the 3rd place Doosan Bears, the 2nd place SSG Landers, and the 1st place LG Twins in the top 9. Samsung’s performance against these teams could make the difference between first and third place.

With Samsung emerging as a hotchpotch with a second-half resurgence, it will be interesting to see how the second-half standings will change.
