Aubameyang out + unregistered body room… Chelsea announce UCL tournament roster

Young freshmen filled in the seats where the veterans were removed. Chelsea have announced their squad for the UEFA Champions League tournament.

Chelsea announced the squad to participate in the 2022/23 season UEFA Champions League tournament through the club’s official website on the 4th (Korean time).

Chelsea, who beat AC Milan in the group stage and advanced to the round of 16 as group 1, will play the first leg of the round of 16 against Borussia Dortmund at 5 am on the 16th.

What is noteworthy is the exclusion of veteran Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from the list. Classified as an off-season player due to his poor performance this season, Aubameyang was ultimately ineligible for the Champions League knockout stage in the second half of the season.

Chelsea’s aggressive recruitment of players also contributed to Aubameyang’s absence. Chelsea signed eight players in the winter transfer window. In order to register a new player according to the rules of the competition, one of the existing players had to be excluded.

Chelsea’s choice was excluding Aubameyang, who was 33 years old and had poor performance. A seat that had already been vacant from the first half, a seat created by sending Jorginho to Arsenal, and a seat missing from Aubameyang were added to secure a total of three seats. 스포츠토토

Chelsea filled these three positions with a trio of newcomers. Newly registered Enso Fernandez, who broke the record for the highest transfer fee in English football, Atletico Madrid loanee Joao Felix, and Ukrainian winger Mikhailo Moudrik.

According to the competition rules, each club can only add three new players before the tournament begins. Because of this, Chelsea, which had recruited 8 players, could not register all the recruits.

Naturally, Dartro Popana, Benoit Badiacil, Andrei Santos, and Noni Madueke were not on the list.
