27-year-old latecomer, KKKK’s first record before ML debut “Unforgettable moment”

Cleveland Guardians’ left-handed pitcher Tim Herrin (27) wrote the first record in his major league debut by striking out 4 times in a row from the first batter.

On the 3rd (hereinafter Korean time), Herrin made a relief mound at the bottom of the 5th inning, trailing 4-5 in the last game of the opening 4-game series against the Seattle Mariners. It was his first major league game, his debut, for Herrin, who came on the mound following starter Carl Quantrill from second out and first base.  메이저사이트

The 2nd slider thrown against the first batter, Jared Kelnick, led to a one-bound wild throw, putting the 2nd and 2nd bases in danger of scoring. However, after making a ball count of 2B-2S, he struck out with a low slider on the 5th pitch and got the first out count.

Herrin, who also came up in the 6th inning, struck out AJ Pollock, JP Crawford, and Julio Rodriguez in a row and made a ‘KKK’ inning. The deciding pitches were all low sliders, so Pollock and Crawford struck out on a swing, and Rodriguez struck out looking.

An impressive debut match with a perfect score with 4 strikeouts and no runs in 1⅓ innings. ‘MLB.com’ described He Lin as the first pitcher ever to strike out all of them while facing at least four batters in his major league debut. This is the first debut record since 1893, when the distance from the mound to home plate was changed to the current 18.44 m (60 feet 6 inches).

Herrin, who made her best debut in front of the family who visited the stadium that day, said, “It was an important moment in the game. He’ll never forget the feeling when he jumps out of the bullpen. He looked at the pitch and he knew ‘I did it’. I was in the big leagues, and it was really cool,” he said of his daunting debut.

A total of 20 pitches were used in the order of slider (14), four-seam fastball (5), and sinker (1). Rather than a four-seam fastball that reached up to 96.4 miles (155.1 km), he intensively used the slider as his main weapon and took away 5 missed swings. “The bullpen needs to use its strengths more than the starters,” Herrin said. I tried to use my strengths because I only deal with hitters once, and it worked.” As Herrin cleanly blocked the 5th and 6th innings, Cleveland came from behind to win 6-5 after a close 10th overtime, and decorated the opening four games with 3 wins and 1 loss.

Herrin, who was drafted late in the 29th round with the 883rd overall pick in the 2018 draft, is a 198 cm tall lefty. After a long training in the minor leagues, at the age of 27, he achieved his dream of debuting in the major leagues. Making his unforgettable debut, he emerged as a new force on the Cleveland mound known for its pitching skills. /waw@osen.co.kr
